Minister Search

March 29, 2016

We are searching for a new minister with our friends at Bethany United. The search committee can be reached (and resumes submitted) via email. Here is the executive summary of our JNAP.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The United Church of Canada encourages its churches to be flexible and nimble in exploring new ways of being the church. Knox Edwards and Bethany are two separate pastoral charges that are exploring a new model of sharing one full-time minister (Category A-B) for the next two years as they experiment in new ways of being church. They are looking for an appointment for 25 hours/week at Bethany (62.5%) and 15 hours/week at Knox Edwards (37.5%). The two churches are located about 15 minutes apart and there would be two services each Sunday at 9:15 am at Knox Edwards and 10:45 am at Bethany with occasional joint services. Each pastoral charge has prepared a Joint Needs Assessment report providing a description of its church and community. The sections on the position description, skills and terms are the same in each report. There is one Joint Search Committee with members from both congregations together with two presbytery representatives.

Knox Edwards is a young at heart church undergoing a period of change. Our congregation has deep rural roots with multiple generations of family history, as well as a generous sprinkling of newer members. We are a family place, with music and children’s ministry being key. We consider our faith community to be open-minded and inclusive. With a realistic eye on the future, Knox Edwards is looking towards closer relationships with neighbouring United churches and we are excited by the possibilities ahead for co-operation and shared ministry. We are looking for a leader to deepen our faith and walk with us as we celebrate and serve in an attempt to be the light in the world. Download our full JNAP summary and document.

Bethany – We are a young at heart congregation that offers a variety of worship styles and events. Based in what was originally a rural community, the congregation has deep roots with multiple generations of families within the community, and a number of new members. Our Sunday services are a mix of traditional and contemporary style. Our music ministry is shared between a passionate praise band and an accomplished organist. We believe in and participate in growth groups studying from a variety of Christian resources, specific Bible books, or Alpha courses. Bethany is known in the area for the semi-annual dinners and strawberry social that we host, often serving 200 to 300 people at each event. Five local charities are supported through our outreach program, as well as mission and service. Each year in January we spend a weekend at Circle Square Ranch for a family retreat and service. Come to church the Sunday preceding our retreat and you’ll find us all attending church in our PJ’s as a special fundraiser. Mother’s Day and Father’s day can be “hat” day, ‘tie” day, “crazy shirt”, or formal wear. Bethany is a fun loving community based congregation. We are looking for a leader to deepen our faith and walk in Christ. A leader who knows Christ and will help us to make Christ known through his/her own efforts and by teaching, encouraging, and showing us how to exemplify the life of Christ to those in our community — locally and through the internet.
